DIY Dollar Store Coastal Modern Home Decor

Updated: Jun 12, 2021

Nothing says Summer time more than the beach. I'm bringing the beach into the house with this DIY coastal home decor for only a few dollars! I'm happy that I think I found an appealing way to incorporate craft-sticks in this decor. Craft-sticks are truly one of the OG materials of crafting! Keep scrolling to find out how I used these materials for a dollar to create two different coastal modern home decor pieces on a budget.

Coastal Seashell Lantern

I used....(All these materials are from the dollar store)

  • Popsicle/Craft Sticks (Small and Large sizes)

  • Nautical Rope

  • Wood Cut-Outs

  • Faux Wood Box

  • Flameless Candle

Instructions:

  1. Start off by breaking down one of the shadow wooden boxes by removing any attachments

  2. (Optionally) Hide any interior prints/patterns to create a neutral interior using cardstock.

  3. I used a hot glue gun and layered together two large craft-sticks with two small craft-sticks in the middle.

  4. I stacked the layered craft-sticks upwards from the base of wood shadow box at opposite sides until I reached what looked like a desirable height.

  5. I used a hot glue gun to add a wood seashell cut out to the back and front of the lantern.

  6. Then, I added and tied nautical rope to either end of the top of the lantern.

  7. Place a flameless candle in the inside the craft-stick lantern.

Coastal Seashell Sculpture

Materials for this project: (All these materials are from the dollar store except for the gold foil leaf that I've used in a previous project.)

  • Gold Foil Leaf

  • 2 Faux Shell Bikini Tops

  • 2 Wood Shadow Boxes

  • Bamboo Skewers

Instructions:

  1. Adhere the two wood boxes together on one of the sides.

  2. Drill a hole in the center of each square box

  3. Take the attached string from the shell bikini tops and and add gold foil to the exterior of the shell.

4. Poke a hole into the bottom of one of the seashell halves using a safety pin.

5. Push the tip of a skewer inside the shell half with the small hole.

6. Adhere both seashell halves together.

7. Then, place the skewered seashells inside the holes that were created in connected

wood boxes.
