I'm easily refreshing a basic denim jacket into a more stylish graphic denim jacket. In this project, I'm doing a no sew version of the popular graphic tee on a denim jacket. I'm up-cycling one of my nostalgic graphic print tanks that I have definitely got all my wears out of. I will be repurposing the inside tag and the image of the tank for this project. I'm merging my graphic Back to the Future tank and my basic jean jacket for a whole new 80's style Back to Future themed look. Check out the fashionable transformation below!
What I Used:
Denim Jacket
Graphic Print Tank
Iron-on Patch
Directions:
Step 1: Start with a denim jacket laying flat with the back side up. Check to see where you want the print to be positioned inside the seams of the back of the jacket.
Step 2: Use scissors to cut around the image of the graphic tee or tank. I tried to not cut close to the image so that I would have room to fold over the corners when it came time to glue everything together.
Step 3: Add fabric glue to the inside seams on the back of the jacket one side at a time. Fold over the cut edges of the graphic print and adhere it to the inside seam on the back of the jacket to create a seamless look.
Step 4: Add fabric glue to the middle of the print as well to make sure everything is tacked down. (Tip: While the glue is setting, add something to anchor the jacket down to ensure a strong bond).
Step 5: Turn the jacket over to the front. Cut the inside tag out and repeat the same process for the graphic print for the logo tag. Adhere the logo tag to the front pocket of the jacket.
Step 6: Add a slit in the fabric for the button hole.
Step 7: Add a cute iron-on patch to one sleeve following the iron-on instructions.
And that's it! You can turn any graphic print into a themed or custom print denim jacket. This was a simple upgrade with no sewing needed to get the look. Try it out!
